The History

National Trades & Agencies(NTA), was established by Mr. P.B.Antony as a proprietary concern on 4th of January 1976, for clearing & forwarding Import/Export cargo at Cochin Port. The business was inaugurated by the proprietor’s father late Mr P.T.Bappu and blessed by his close kith & kin and well wishers ( Late) Mr K.A.Joseph -Co-brother (Late) Mr M.X.Rockey -Brother in law , Mr. C.A Madhavan, former mayor of Cochin Corporation and Mr.Frank Mathew owner of the office building. In 1980, Mr P.S.Menon, retired appraiser of Cochin customs joined NTA and registered it as a partnership concern.

On the 23rd February 1981, Cochin Customs granted NTA, Custom House Agents Licence No.58, which enabled it to serve their esteemed clients in a much better way.

During the year 1984 Mr. C. Divakaran and both the sons of Mr.P.B.Antony – Mr.P.A.Jose Benedict and Mr.P.A.George Xavier were qualified in the customs examination and in 1986 the firm was reconstituted by taking Mr.P.A.Jose Benedict and Mr.P.A.George Xavier as partners in the business.

Today is one of the leading customs broker in South India with 4 branches – CSEZ, Port Trust, CIAL(Shifted from Trivandrum), Chennai and a 5th one in line with reaches to all corners of the globe. National Trades and Agencies, with Mr. P.B. Antony at the helm, has proved its credibility beyond doubt and depth.

Extensions & Expansions

After declaring Trivandrum Airport as an international Airport, NTA’s aim to operate from Trivandrum materialized on the 24th February 1985 with the opening of a branch at Trivandrum Air Cargo complex. Now the Trivandrum branch is one among the leading C & F agents at Trivandrum.

By this time NTA was entrusted by many Exporters/Importers to handle their C & F work at Madras and so its 2nd branch was opened at Madras on the 6th August 1986. This office now caters to the need of a large number of Exporters /Importers based at Tamilnadu as well as Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and other states.

NTA were the only C & F agents at Cochin Special Economic Zone during the initial stage. To provide them better services, it started a separate office at kakkanad initially in a rented building and later shifted to its own building – “NTA HOUSE” on the 26th February 1994 with a full fledged godown facility in the ground floor.

After the introduction of house stuffing in containers at Cochin Port, NTA’s share in handling Export/Import cargoes increased. To meet with the needs of their clients, NTA now have a fleet of trailers to transport both 20′ and 40′ containers and generator mounted on trailers for carrying perishable cargo.

In the year 1999 NTA started their new office close to the new Cochin International Airport in their newly constructed three storied building. This office is exclusively for handling, clearing and forwarding of air cargoes, which are routed through Cochin International Airport Nedumbassery. This new office “NTA TOWERS” at Nedumbassery was blessed by Late. Rev.Fr. Xavier Pallathuparambil – the only brother of Mr .P.B Antony – on the 7th july 1999 in the presence of clients and well wishers.

NTA’s head office which functioned from M/s K.F.Mathew & Sons building, W/Island was shifted on to its own building during January 2000. This was made possible with the help, support and co-operation of NTA’s esteemed clients, well wishers and staff.

The new office “NTA CHAMBERS” was blessed on the 14th January 2000 by Rt.Rev.Dr.John Thattumkal, the Bishop of Cochin at that time. It is to be thankfully remembered and we wish to place on record the sincere and loyal efforts of the staff of NTA without which it would not have grown to its present position.
